_____

The Mohave Valley Fire Department, in conjunction with our mutual aid partners, Fort Mohave Mesa Fire, Bullhead Fire, and San Bernardino County Fire, have been given the opportunity to conduct hands-on joint training at the old Mohave Valley Elementary School Campus. In addition to Fire training, area law enforcement agencies, including the Mohave County Services Office and Fort Mohave Police, will have the opportunity to conduct training at the Olive & Commercial Streets in Mohave Valley site. The training events will occur on various dates over April and May, preceding campus repurposing for the school district’s bus and maintenance facilities.

The elementary school on the campus first opened in 1965, expanding from a few buildings and classrooms to a campus with more than 15 buildings, including classrooms and various support offices and facilities. The elementary and middle school classrooms were moved from the site to new facilities in 2015.

The Mohave Valley Elementary School campus has a rich history and has been instrumental in providing quality education to children in the Mohave Valley area. As the school district moved forward in repurposing the campus, the district, in conjunction with area emergency service agencies, looked at ways the project could incorporate educational opportunities for first responders. This collaboration, led by the School District and Mohave Valley Fire, created a two-month hands-on training plan to enhance the skills of area fire departments and law enforcement agencies.

In the words of Doug Baldwin: “Change is inevitable, change will always happen, but you have to apply direction to change, and that’s when it’s progress”. Providing unique educational and training opportunities for area 1st responders in conjunction with Repurposing the school campus offers this progressive change.

Further details on training plans will be released in early April.
